Jeep Commanders.

Kinja'd!!!

I'd expect to see more Grand Cherokees or Durangos of the same vintage then these, yet I'm pretty sure these are more common.

Just a few minutes ago I was at a stop light and in the opposing direction, there were two of them there. There's one or two in my girlfriend's neighborhood. And I see a few at school from time to time.

The aren't bad looking SUVs, even though I have accidentally mistaken them for Libertys more times than I'd like to admit.

And I'm sure they're not too bad with the Hemi.

Though the interior looks a bit plastic-fantastic, probably nothing worse than a Tahoe of the same vintage though. So long as the seats are comfortable.

Kinja'd!!!

Jeep should make something like this again.

The Commander had bad timing, otherwise it probably could have been a hit.

You're in luck, a big Wagoneer-ish type thing is part of the 5-year plan, and it will no doubt have a nicer interior than they were putting in Jeeps back in the Commander days.

Sounds like how the Kia Borrego met its maker.

Isn't one of them totally destroyed in a breaking bad episode during a gun battle?

I do not like them, for me this is what american car companies were synonymus for making all the way through the 90s to the mid to late 2000s:

SUVs that couldn't be driven offroad due to their overweight and relatively low suspention set up, which was to weak to be enjoyable to drive on the street, styled like no one cared about it really, bad fuel economy both because of the oversized engine and the sluggish automatic and cheap dash with plenty of wood inlays made of the fake plastic tree.

No idea, never watched Breaking Bad.

While they were all those things, they still sold. In very high numbers.

If it ain't broke...

I forgot about the Borrego until I drove by one the other day. I immediately remembered they could be had with a V8 though!

My buddie's mom has one of these with a v6, it's actually really nice. We took it on a road trip from O'Fallon to Chicago and it rivaled the 535xi in comfort. Plus they have a awesome stock stereo.

I have a base Liberty, which is basically a 7/8 version of the Commander. The 3.7l engine is terrible in all regards except for the fact that it's generally reliable as long as you change the oil & spark plugs regularly. I have one of approximately 8 that were made with a 6 spd manual, which makes driving it tolerable to borderline fun, for a slow SUV that handles poorly.

You can't beat it in the snow though, thanks to *real* 4wd and excellent traction control. As it gets older, the crappy plastic interior gets better and better. This has to be the cockroach of interiors - All you need to do is vacuum it and go over everything with some Armor-all wipes, and it looks new.

Didn't even know they sold the second gen Liberty with a stick. Awesome.

so here's the thing about the Commander, at least with the HEMI. They sucked fuel at a rate that made most aircraft blush. 13 mpg. highway. with a tailwind. every day. We woned one, and it was possibly my wife's most favorite SUV ever. 7 passenger (assuming some of them are pretty small) seating, awesome winter traction and nice looking.

traded it for same year Durango (used) with same 5.7 HEMI and AWD, highway mpg went to 20. The Commander had the aerodynamics of the vatican.

Strange, where I live I see maybe one every two months. In the summer.

A good friend of mine has one. I don't particularly care for it either, but he loves it. It handles mild off-roading just fine, and the damn thing is virtually unstoppable in the snow.
